GeoStats Awareness Programme ‘Caribbean Together – Everyone Counts’ for virtual launch October 12

The United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management Regional Committee for the Americas (UN-GGIM Americas), Caribbean Geospatial Initiative (CARIGEO), and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), in collaboration with the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Esri are excited to announce the official launch of the GeoStats Awareness Programme under the theme ‘Caribbean Together – Everyone Counts’. This innovative programme is set to kick off on Thursday, 12 October 2023, virtually, beginning at 10:00 am to 11:00 am GMT-4 (Eastern)

The geospatial and statistical communities, specifically educators and students of Social Studies, Geography and Information Technology, at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels, across the Caribbean are invited to attend the launch of the programme and participate in the associated upcoming series of events.

During the launch, participants will meet the programme organisers, learn about the GeoStats Awareness Programme, its objectives, and the related events including the GeoStats Students Competition.

About the GeoStats Awareness Programme:

The programme will, through a series of events, foster interest, understanding and engagement among youths in the Caribbean about the use and benefits of Geographic Information Science (GISc) statistics and supporting geospatial and related technologies. The overarching goal is to highlight the role of geospatially enabled statistics in understanding the relationships between the economy, society, and the environment.

GeoStats Awareness Programme Highlights:

Participants in the programme will achieve:

  1. Educational Empowerment: Raise awareness about the significance of geospatial technologies and statistics in various sectors.
  2. Engaging Learning: Offer interactive workshops, webinars, online resources and hands-on applications that introduce youths to geospatial technologies and statistics.
  3. Inspirational Career Guidance in the Geospatial Field: Feature professionals and experts from the geospatial and statistical fields to inspire and guide youths.

  • Caribbean Statistics Day: 15th October 2023
  • GIS Day Celebrations: 15th November 2023
  • GeoStat Student Competition Deadline: 15th January 2024
  • Awards Ceremony: 1st, February 2024
