Anticipation grows for Caribbean Week of Agriculture 2023

“Accelerating Vision 25 by 2025” is the official theme for the Caribbean Week of Agriculture (CWA) 2023 which will be held 9 – 13 October 2023 at the Breezes Resort Bahamas, Nassau, The Bahamas (Register here).

An official virtual launch is planned for 1 September 2023 at 10:00 AM.  In addition, the CWA Youth Forum is scheduled for 10 October 2023.

According to Ms Milagro Matus, Deputy Programme Manager (DPM), Agricultural and Agro-Industrial Development, Directorate of Economic Integration, Innovation and Development, CCS, “the main objectives of CWA 2023 include promoting the Regional Food System Agenda, particularly programmes to accelerate the 25 by 2025 programme and presenting potential investors and other stakeholders with new and emerging opportunities in CARICOM Agriculture, including technological and logistical solutions.”

The DPM also explained that the forum would promote specific regional agricultural enterprises and products and facilitate Business to Business and Government to Business engagements with private sector players.

Further, the event will also focus on matching bankable agricultural projects with available private and public financing and addressing crosscutting issues such as climate change, access to finance and other emerging threats to agricultural development in the Region.

“Assessing the Regional Food and Nutrition Security Strategy and the National Food Security Plan against what has been done to achieve the 25% by 2025 mandate will also be a priority area for discussion,” stated Ms Matus.

CWA is the premier event on the regional agricultural calendar. Anticipation for the event was recently boosted by an announcement from H.E. Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali, Lead Head of Government with responsibility for Agriculture and Agriculture Development in the CARICOM Quasi-Cabinet and President of Guyana, indicating that 300 CARICOM nationals would be trained in hydroponics and aquaculture, at least half of whom will be women.
