Anguilla Selected for Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award

(Anguilla Statistics Department Press Release) The Government of Anguilla through the Anguilla Statistics Department (ASD) has been selected to receive a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the 2023 Esri User Conference. Environmental Systems Research Institute, Inc. (Esri)
is a geographic information system (GIS) software company founded in 1969 and best known for its ArcGIS products with a 43% market share. This award is given to user sites around the world to recognize outstanding work with GIS technology.

Esri International solicited nominations of outstanding users from vertical industry managers, US regional offices, and international distributors. These were carefully evaluated and the ASD was one of the 197 organisations chosen from more than 100, 000 Esri clients worldwide this year.

The Anguilla Statistics Department (ASD) has been working with Spatial Innovision Ltd, Jamaica, an international distributor, for over the past three (3) years to develop an end to end solution to capture the entire enumeration process of the Anguilla Population and Housing (AP&H) Census 2022. The AP&H Census 2022 transitioned from a Paper and Pencil
Interview (PAPI) used in previous AP&H Censuses to a fully Tablet Assisted Personal Interview (TAPI) using the ArcGIS software.

The ASD is extremely honoured to have been nominated and subsequently selected for the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award 2023. None of this would have been possible without the entire team from ESRI, special mention Linda Peters, Kate Hess and Adam Pfister as well as Karen Sullivan, Spatial Innovision Ltd. special mention Lionel Grant, Hopeton Ferguson, Patrick McClean, Roshaun Clarke and the Department of Physical Planning in Anguilla special mention Julian Hughes, Silvia Erni and Stafford John, the very staff of the ASD and all other individuals who encouraged us to push ahead, including Dr. Harrison – Past Programme Director – Statistics CARICOM.

This is a humbling, yet sobering achievement, given the size of the organization (ASD), but one which shows, in this case, that size is not a constraint but that determination, self-will and hard-work will always be rewarded with success.

The ASD appreciates all the support being given by the Permanent Secretary and staff of the Ministry of Sustainability, Innovation and the Environment, Executive Council and the Governor’s Office as the ASD strives to complete the collection of AP&H Census 2022 data. The award will be presented at 2023 Esri User Conference scheduled for July 10 – 14, 2023.

The staff at the ASD would like to thank the general public for your support in the roll out of the AP&H Census 2022, enumerators and supervisors. We kindly request your continued cooperation as we seek to complete the enumeration phase. Please let us know if you have yet to be enumerated. If you do not have your ‘COUNTED’ sticker as yet please contact us at 497-2451 Ext 1861 and provide us with your location details.

We look forward to continuing to provide you with courteous and professional service, as we endeavor to provide “Sound Statistics for Sustainable Development’.
