Joint Press Release on the Launch of the Joint Task Force for the upcoming 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago

1.  On June 17, Mr. UESUGI Kentaro, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, visited the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and met with Senator the Honourable Dr. Amery BROWNE, Minister of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago

2.  Parliamentary Vice-Minister UESUGI and Minister BROWNE welcomed the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Trinidad and Tobago in 2024.

3.  Noting that the two countries share basic values such as freedom and democracy, and have developed relations in various fields since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1964, they expressed their commitment to further expand and strengthen bilateral relations.

4.  Parliamentary Vice-Minister UESUGI and Minister Browne affirmed that the Embassy of Japan in Trinidad and Tobago and the Ministry of Foreign and CARICOM Affairs of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago would soon establish a joint task force to plan and implement measures to expand and strengthen the bilateral relations on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024 and beyond.

5.  The Joint Task Force will engage in extensive discussions to expand and deepen the exchanges and friendship ties between the two countries in a wide range of areas, including educational, cultural and academic exchanges, economic cooperation, tourism promotion, and sports exchanges.
