Former Premier of Nevis dies

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett said Saturday that she was “deeply saddened” at the death of former Premier of Nevis, His. Excellency Vance Amory.

A former Senior Minister in the Government of St Kitts and Nevis, Amb. Amory died on 2 April in the United Kingdom, Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris announced.

“I am extremely saddened by the passing of former Premier of Nevis and Sr Minister in the Gov of St Kitts & Nevis.

“Special Envoy Vance W Amory, your innings is over, but your commitment to the cause of unity at home and in the Region lives on. Deepest condolences to his family,” the Secretary-General said.

On Saturday, in an address to the nation, Prime Minister Harris described Amb. Amory as a true patriot, scholar, educator, astute politician and respected cricket.

The Prime Minister announced that Amb. Amory will be accorded a States Funeral and an official period of mourning will be observed in St. Kitts and Nevis.
