‘I AM CARICOM’ Campaign Highlighted at UWI Webinar on Regional Integration Pre/Post COVID 19

The ‘I AM CARICOM’ Communications Campaign coordinated by the CARICOM Secretariat, has been highlighted as an important initiative for building awareness on the work and contribution of CARICOM to the development of Caribbean civilisation.

Jamaica’s Ambassador to CARICOM, Her Excellency Janice Miller, made this observation while presenting on the topic ‘Regional Integration Pre/Post-COVID-19’, at a webinar hosted by the Department of Sociology, Psychology and Social Work, UWI Mona, on 17 February 2022.

Noting that CARICOM is the oldest surviving integration movement in the developing world, Amb. Miller, further stated that CARICOM has made significant strides in fostering cooperation and collaboration in critical areas of health, security, trade, natural disaster management, climate change adaptation, and regional pandemic management throughout the Community.

The ‘I AM CARICOM’ Campaign is a long-term communications strategy designed to increase visibility and understanding of CARICOM among citizens of the Community. The campaign was launched on the margins of the Tenth Meeting of the CARICOM Committee of Ambassadors held in Guyana in November 2019. This integrated communications campaign is designed to promote the CARICOM identity, increase citizens’ engagement with the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), engender ownership of the Caribbean Community Strategic Plan 2020-2030, and participate fully in the continued integration and development of the Region.

The overarching campaign slogan ‘I AM CARICOM’ has been deliberately personalised. In this respect, the campaign aims to strengthen the CARICOM Identity and Spirit of Community by raising individual consciousness that CARICOM is about each citizen of the Caribbean Community.
