CARICOM SG expresses profound sorrow at loss of life in Haiti gas tanker explosion

CARICOM Secretary-General, Dr. Carla Barnett, on Tuesday expressed profound sorrow at the loss of life following the explosion of a gas tanker in Cap Haitien, Haiti on Monday night

The Secretary-General was at the time addressing representatives of the media at her first regional press conference since she took office in August.

“Before we begin, I want to express on behalf of the Community, my profound sorrow at the loss of life as a result of the explosion of a gas tanker in Haiti’s second city Cap Haitien last night. More than 50 people have been confirmed dead with the numbers rising. As more information comes in the Secretariat will be issuing a statement of condolence,” she said. 

Prime Minister of Haiti, Dr. Ariel Henry, has declared three days of national mourning.
