CARICOM Accelerating Digital Transformation Through Training in Cloud Technology

As the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) continues to work towards the acceleration of Digital Transformation in the Region, the CARICOM Secretariat and Amazon Web Services (AWS) partnered to conduct a training course to understand Amazon’s cloud technology.

Cloud usage and development of a cloud strategy are a part of the regional plan to fast-track digital transformation in the context of the CARICOM Single ICT Space.

The virtual training, CARICOM DigiGov, was held 6 – 7 October 2021, and was geared towards stakeholders working in areas such as government, information technology, business analysts, project management, data governance, finance and operations, and security and compliance.

The training was designed to raise awareness of the cloud as a tool to deliver citizen-centric services across the government sector. Governments can use the cloud to protect their data and information assets, in addition to adopting new channels to offer better levels of services to their clients. Cloud solutions are especially important given that the CARICOM region is prone to natural disasters.

The training session covered topics such as cloud concepts and AWS global infrastructure, AWS cloud value proposition, cloud architectural principles, regional case studies and different government services offered by AWS. The training sessions were delivered by AWS instructors. More than 100 persons from 13 Member States and Associate Members of CARICOM governments, regional institutions/organisations, as well as stakeholders from Latin America participated in the training. All participants who attended both days of the training will be offered certificates of completion by Amazon Web Services.
