Not business as usual as COVID-19 situation deteriorates in Grenada – PM Mitchell

As the COVID-19 situation deteriorates rapidly in Grenada, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell has announced new measures to control the spread of the virus, stating it “cannot be business as usual.”

Grenada has moved from the occasional identification of positive cases to daily additions of new cases, sometimes in excess of 100 per day and is now at the stage of community spread.

In an address to the nation on 3 September 2021, the Prime Minister pointed out that the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 is now nearing 1,000, with more than 600 active cases.

“The situation is dire and clearly, it cannot be business as usual. While there will be continuity of operations in some sectors including the public service, statutory bodies and state-owned enterprises, manufacturing, construction, wholesale and retail grocery, banking, transportation, agriculture and fisheries, it has become necessary to implement closures in non-essential sectors to help limit the movement of people and curb the spread of the virus,”, PM Mitchell said.
