‘We are a global superpower in athletics’ – PM Holness on historic 100m sweep by female Jamaican athletes

“Our Jamaican athletes have once again shown the world that we are a global superpower in athletics,” Prime Minister of Jamaica, the Hon. Andrew Holness said on Saturday.

He made the comment as he congratulated female Jamaican athletes Elaine Thompson Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson, who swept the 100-metre sprint at the Tokyo Olympics. In winning gold, Thompson Herah defended her Olympic title and erased a 33 year old Olympic record.

CARICOM Secretary-General, Amb. Irwin LaRocque also congratulated the trio.

“CARICOM salutes your historic performance. You’ve done our region proud,” he said.
