Secretary-General has served Community with distinction – CARICOM Chairman

The Chairman of CARICOM, Dr. the Hon. Keith Rowley, Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, has expressed sincere appreciation to CARICOM Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque, whose tenure ends in August.

Delivering remarks on Wednesday, 24 February 2021, at the opening of the Thirty-second Intersessional Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM, Prime Minister Rowley said Secretary-General LaRocque had served the Community with distinction.

“Ambassador LaRocque, I commend you on your unwavering commitment to regional integration. I would like to put on record today that you, with your quintessential cool, calm and steady manner, have served our Community with distinction.  Well done,” the Chairman said.

The seventh Secretary-General of CARICOM and national of Dominica, Ambassador LaRocque assumed office on 15 August 2011, following his selection by the Conference of Heads of Government of CARICOM on 21 July 2011.  His service at the CARICOM Secretariat began in September 2005, as Assistant Secretary-General, Trade and Economic Integration. 

Prime Minister Rowley also thanked the staff of the CARICOM Secretariat for their tireless work.

“I would also like to express gratitude to the staff of the Secretariat who work tirelessly to support our Community in every respect and who have displayed exemplary acts of service and commitment throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Without your efforts, the Community would not have done so well in managing this pandemic,” he said.
