Montserrat’s 12 Month Remote Work Stamp has opened is Application

Brades, Montserrat – The Remote Workers Stamp was launched on Friday January 29, 2021.  The new Stamp gives professionals and entrepreneurs the opportunity to work remotely from paradise while living like a Montserratian; experiencing the island’s natural beauty, its food, its culture, island life and more, for a year.

The 12 month remote workers stamp provides an opportunity for Montserrat to maintain a level of tourism activity, whilst also ensuring the health and safety of its residents.

Premier Hon. Joseph E. Farrell

“The COVID-19 pandemic has brought with it numerous challenges to our personal, recreational and professional lives. But, it has created a unique opportunity for you to work from any place you choose, and Montserrat must be your first choice,” said Premier Hon. Joseph E. Farrell.

We are delighted to offer Montserrat as your new work space. Our people are friendly and the breathtaking natural scenery provides an authentic Caribbean vibe. The island is peaceful and unhurried, with a low crime rate,” he added.
Individuals seeking to take advantage of the 12-month Montserrat Remote Worker Stamp must be able to work remotely, must have valid medical insurance and they must be earning a minimum of USD$70,000 annually.

“We set the bar for their annual income at USD$70,000, so individuals who express an interest in our 12-month programme must first demonstrate that they can contribute to our economy, and not take from our economy,” said Deputy Premier and Minister of Communication, Work, Labour and Energy (MCWLE), Dr. The Hon. Samuel Joseph.

In addition to that, the Deputy Premier  said, “there will be a background character check and assessment on the individuals who present themselves as potential beneficiaries under this programme, so that we only accept reputable individuals, who will positively contribute and integrate into our communities.”

Dr. Joseph further stated, “Montserrat has several unique attributes that make the Remote Worker Stamp attractive including safety, good mobile penetration, good internet connectivity, an adequate health care system and a high standard of education and public service. These things collectively give us an opportunity to enter the market with this particular initiative to promote and elevate Montserrat’s position as a world-class destination for leisure and business travel.”

Bass Consultancy Services was commissioned by the Ministry of Communication, Work, Labour and Energy to manage the marketing campaign for the Stamp. During the launch the marketing firm mentioned that they are targeting two groups primarily – young professionals and pre-retirement individuals.

“We are targeting two groups – age 22 to 39 and the second group age 40 to 55. Why? At 22 to 39 years old you tend to be single, so that gives you the flexibility to move internationally. At 40 to 55 you tend to be married with children, you work in a senior role and you crave the opportunity to live a more easy going lifestyle with your family,” explained Mr. Roydenn Silcott, the CEO of subcontractors Hypnotik Graphics & Design.

Montserrat is a UK Overseas Territory, who receives aid from the United Kingdom, but with the global COVID-19 pandemic affecting the economy of every nation, this initiative would help the country to recover some of the revenue loss experienced since the tourism industry came to a standstill at the end of March 2020.
