Elections Day in Bermuda

Bermudians vote today in General Elections.

The snap elections, were called nearly two years ahead of the constitutional deadline by Premier David Burt who noted that he wanted to spare the country an anticipated string of by-elections if several Members of Parliament retired as expected.

Premier Burt’s Progressive Labour Party (PLP) is being challenged by the main opposition One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) led by Mr Craig Cannonier and a recently launched third party, the Free Democratic Movement (FDM) led by Mr Marc Dean.  The PLP is contesting all 36 seats at stake, while the OBA will contest 31 seats and the FDM 15.

In the last elections, held on 18 July 2017, the PLP  won 24 of the 36 seats, with the other twelve going to the One Bermuda Alliance (OBA) led at the time by the outgoing Premier Michael Dunkley.

Bermuda is an Associate Member of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM)
