State Funeral For Late Prime Minister Arthur

The body of former Prime Minister, Professor, The Rt. Honourable Owen Arthur, will lie in state in Parliament Buildings on Wednesday, August 12, and Thursday, August 13, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.


(Barbados Government Information Service) Former Prime Minister, Professor, The Rt. Honourable Owen Arthur, will be accorded a State Funeral with the “pomp and pageantry” befitting his outstanding contribution to this island’s landscape as the longest serving Prime Minister.

Ministerial Coordinator for the state funeral, Colin Jordan, who is also the Minister of Labour and Social Partnership Relations, gave an update on the preparations during a press conference today in the Conference Room at Cabinet Office.

He told the media that the service will be held on Friday, August 14, at St. Peter’s Parish Church, beginning at 2:00 p.m., and will be followed by the interment at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens, St. Peter, Benny Hall, St. Peter, which is located east of the All Saint’s Primary School, where the late Prime Minister received his early education.
