Bahamians assessing the damage from Hurricane Isaias

Hurricane Isaias unleashed heavy winds and rain on The Bahamas on Saturday, snapping trees and causing power outages.

The Category One hurricane was packing maximum sustained winds of around 80 miles per hour as it made landfall on the northern Andros Islands.

Officials were monitoring Abaco Island where shelters were opened to help residents living in shelters since the devastation cased there by the Category Five hurricane Dorian in September last year.

Hurricane Isaias weakened following its passage through The Bahamas but forecasters expect it to strengthen again on Sunday as it moves towards Florida.
