First COVID-19 Case Confirmed in St. Vincent and the Grenadines

The Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment has announced the first confirmed case of COVID-19 in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The case is an imported one brought through a female who recently returned from travel to the UK.

According to Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Simone Keizer-Beache, this female returned to SVG on March 7th, began showing mild symptoms on March 10th and reported herself to the health authorities. The CMO also noted that the female has been isolated in a safe place and is comfortable while the other members of the family are in quarantine.

Minister of Health Luke Browne said the ministry is at an advanced stage of setting up an isolation center at Argyle. In the meantime, persons are being encouraged to continue practicing proper basic hygiene. The Ministry of Health made the announcement at an emergency press conference on Wednesday March 11th, 2020.
