Dominicans vote today

There was a heavy early voter turn-out under overcast conditions as Dominicans vote in General Elections, Friday.

The Elections are a straight fight between the incumbent Dominica Labour Party (DLP) of Prime Minister Mr. Roosevelt Skerrit and the United Workers Party (UWP) of Opposition Leader Mr Lennox Linton. The two parties are fielding a full slate of 21 candidates.

The CARICOM Election Observation Mission about to begin observing Election Day activities

Polling began at 7:00 a.m. and Election Officials say 74,895 voters are eligible to cast ballots at the 255 polling stations across the country.

A CARICOM Election Observation Mission is monitoring today’s Election Day activities, including the opening of the polls through to tabulation and announcement of the results. At the end of today’s activities, the Mission will issue a Preliminary Statement outlining its initial assessment of the electoral process.  This will be followed by a detailed Independent Final Report which will be submitted to the CARICOM Secretary-General Ambassador Irwin LaRocque.
