Media Advisory – Guyana Solar Challenge 2019 Prize-Giving Ceremony

Winners of the Guyana Solar Challenge 2019 will get their prizes Monday at a ceremony at the CARICOM Secretariat.

The Guyana Solar Challenge was a national competition held during October to engage and educate youth nationwide about the benefits of renewable energy.

Young people between 12 and 26 were asked to harness their creative energies (in a form such as a song/video, art installation, performance piece, viral meme, sculpture) towards raising awareness about renewable energy, specifically its potential to deliver long-term economic benefits, reduce harmful environmental impacts, and increase energy security and independence for Guyana. The winning projects demonstrate creativity and an ability to educate the public about the specific benefits of solar energy for Guyana.

The Challenge was held as a collaborative effort among Solar Head of State (SHOS), the Caribbean Youth Environment Network (CYEN) the Commonwealth Youth Council (CYC), CARICOM, Guyana Power and Light (GPL), MPC Capital, Guyana Ministry of Environment, Public Service International (PSI), and Guyana Energy Agency (GEA).
