Guyana Govt pledges $41.6M to the Bahamas

(Department of Public Information) The Government of Guyana (GoG) will be donating $41.6M ($200,000US) to the Bahamas, to aid in the country’s current disaster tragedy.

This declaration was made on Sunday evening, by the Minister of State, Hon. Dawn Hastings-Williams, during the ‘Rise Bahamas’ telethon programme, aired on the National Communications Network (NCN).

The televised programme was a joint initiative between the Rotary Clubs of Guyana, the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) and NCN; aimed at soliciting donations – whether monitory and/or any other form of contribution, to assist Bahamians, who are currently fighting for survival after experiencing the massive hurricane Dorian on September 1.

Minister Hastings-Williams said that the Coalition Government is saddened by the massive chaos ‘Dorian’ has caused upon the country, while assuring that Guyana’s government will continue to render support to bring relief speedily to the current situation.
