SG lauds Trinidad and Tobago’s contribution to CARICOM

Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretary-General, Ambassador Irwin LaRocque has lauded Trinidad and Tobago’s contribution to the Region as the Twin Island Republic celebrates its fifty-seventh Anniversary of Independence on 31 August 2019.

In a congratulatory message to the Prime Minister Dr. the Honourable Keith Rowley of Trinidad and Tobago, the Secretary-General said the significant role the country continues to play in the Community was exemplified by its “very successful” hosting of Region’s premier cultural showcase, CARIFESTA (XIV) from 16-25 August 2019.

“The country continues to play a significant role in the advancement of a strengthened, integrated and resilient Community, not only through its leadership on regional security and energy issues but also through its contributions in the areas of culture, sports, academia and diplomacy,” the Secretary-General said.

He commended its progress as “impressive,” buoyed by the “creativity and ingenuity of its people,” as he conveyed the Community’s best wishes for

Trinidad and Tobago’s continued progress and development.

 

The full text of the message reads as follows:

“It is the Caribbean Community’s pleasure to extend congratulations to the Government and People of Trinidad and Tobago on the celebration of fifty-seven years of independence on 31 August 2019.

Trinidad and Tobago’s progress during that period has been impressive buoyed by the creativity and ingenuity of its people.

The country continues to play a significant role in the advancement of a strengthened, integrated and resilient Community, not only through its leadership on regional security and energy issues but also through its contributions in the areas of culture, sports, academia and diplomacy.  This was exemplified by the recent very successful hosting of CARIFESTA XIV, the Region’s premier cultural showcase.

Honourable Prime Minister, I join the Community in celebrating this momentous day with the People of Trinidad and Tobago.  Please accept our best wishes for Trinidad and Tobago’s continued progress and development.”
