CARICOM Culture Ministers, Officials meet during CARIFESTA XIV

CARICOM Culture Ministers and Officials took some time away from enjoying the festivities of CARIFESTA XIV to discuss  the business of the cultural sector. They met on Sunday 18 August at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain. Among the topics discussed was the hosting of CARIFESTA XIV and the economic value of culture in the region.

Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Culture Hon. Nyan Gadsby-Dolly was elated that CARIFESTA XIV was finally underway and underscored the value of the Ministers making the time to attend. (See more of the Minister’s comments in the video below):

CARIFESTA attracts artists and cultural professionals from across the Region and has been held 13 times across eight countries. Among the CARICOM Member States that have hosted this culturally iconic event are: Guyana (1972, 2008), Jamaica (1976), Barbados (1981, 2017), Trinidad and Tobago (1992, 1995, 2006), St. Kitts and Nevis (2000), Suriname (2003, 2013) and Haiti (2015). The Festival was also held in Cuba in 1979.

Delegations from more than 20 countries are currently in Trinidad and Tobago for the festival.
