Establishment of A Regional Statistical Programme in Support of the CSME

At the Fifteenth Meeting of the Community Council of Ministers which was held in Guyana on January 5, 2005 a presentation was made on the "Establishment of A Regional Statistical Programme in Support of the CSME". The Resolution calling for increased investment in Statistics in the Region which was finalized at the Twenty-Eighth Meeting of the Standing Committee of Caribbean Statisticians(SCCS) in Turks and Caicos Islands in 2003 was also presented. The actions required to be taken by Governments of the region with respect to the Draft Statistical Programme for the Region and the Resolution were accepted by the Community Council.

At the recently concluded 30th SCCS Meeting, it was decided that an Advisory Group be formed to treat with the issue of implementing the Regional Statistical Programme and the Resolution calling on governments to give priority for investing in Statistics.

It was agreed that the Advisory Group comprise the existing advisory group that operates in the area of Social/Gender and Environment Statistics with the addition of the Assistant Director of the Central Statistical Office of Trinidad and Tobago. In addition, a web-based forum is currently being set up to facilitate the operationalization of the Advisory Group.

The membership of the Advisory Group comprises the following persons:
